Watchdog faults the MLA over press accreditation

The Front's media spokesman says the authority's refusals lack published criteria and an appeal route.

The Civic Renewal Front has asked the Council for Education to publish the criteria used by the Media Licensing Authority when it refuses Assembly accreditation.

The request follows the authority’s refusal of two Northfocus reporters this week, which it explained only by reference to “standards.” The Front’s media spokesman said a licensing body that will not name its standard or its appeal route is not regulating the press but selecting it.

The Council for Education said it would respond in writing. The authority has made no further statement.
