Bistrica council restores the cooperative market on the river

The market, closed since the 2018 spill, reopens with a filtration point and a rent freeze for growers.

Bistrica

The cooperative market on the Bistrica riverfront reopened on Sunday, eight years after the water crisis closed it and the city used the shed as a filtration depot.

The council has installed a public filtration and testing point at the entrance and frozen stall rents for three years. Growers from the upper valley, who supply most of the produce, said the reopening was overdue. The forestry cooperative ran the reconstruction with volunteer labour.

The reopening was timed to the autumn fair. The market will run twice weekly through the winter.
