Northern Power forces debate on the district powers bill
Two decades of centralist budgets have drained the district chambers, Syv Iric told the Assembly.
Northern Power used its procedural allocation on Wednesday to force a debate on the district powers bill, a measure that would return taxing and licensing authority over regional industry to the district chambers.
Syv Iric, the party’s leader, told the Assembly that two decades of centralist budgets had left the northern chambers unable to borrow, license or inspect the firms that dominate their economies. “A district that cannot tax its own foundries cannot clean its own water,” he said, returning to the argument he has made since the Red Shore campaigns.
The Chair of the Assembly referred the bill to the constitutional committee, where Blue Dawn’s majority has previously held such measures. No vote is scheduled.
